The beginning of the legend: Corvette
The Corvette that almost never was, in 1952 the corvette was displayed for the first
time, to an amazing fan fair. In '53 Chevrolet released a limited run of 300 corvettes. These vettes where hand-built on a
truck chassis with a blue flame straight 6 motor and a 2 speed automatic transmission.
In '54 the corvette did not change, though it was now assembly line built with 3,640 produced. 1954 was almost the end of
the corvette, until Ford released the 55 Thunderbird. Chevrolet decided to upgrade the power train in the C1 vette to a 265CI
V-8 and an optional 3 speed transmission. Needless to say, the rest was history!
In '56 the corvette was completely restyled, and the blue flame straight six was no longer an option. In '57 the Corvette
did not change other than fuel injection became an option, along with 4 speed manual transmission.
The '58 vette saw another complete redesign which included dual headlights. The '59 and '60 were carry-overs of the '58 corvette,
except for the addition of chrome strips on the trunk, and the removal of louvers on the hood.
The '61 corvete saw some major styling changes including the now famous four tail lights, and the front grill without heavy
teeth. The '62 corvette was a carry-over of the '61 vette. 1962 saw the end of the C1 corvette era. 1963 would bring a completely
new corvette into the world.
